About mybrokenshelf

Why “mybrokenshelf”?

You know the feeling. Something doesn’t sit right, a sermon that contradicts what you were taught last year, a rule that seems to hurt the people it claims to protect, a question your leader couldn’t quite answer. It’s not enough to leave over. So you do what most of us do: you put it on the shelf.

The shelf is that quiet place in the back of your mind where you store the things that don’t add up. Not because you’re ignoring them, because you’re not ready yet. You still believe. You still want to believe. So the questions sit there, gathering weight you try not to think about.

Then one day, something new lands, maybe something small, and you hear it. That slow, structural groan. The shelf that held everything you weren’t ready to face finally gives way. And suddenly every question you ever set aside is on the floor in front of you, all at once.

That moment can feel like the end of something. We built this site because it’s actually the beginning.

mybrokenshelf is the only online destination that serves people navigating religious deconstruction with both emotional depth and practical seriousness, across all traditions, without an agenda. We believe lived experience is a first-class credential and that every stage of deconstruction is valid.
